Band Karate
What is Band Karate?
Band Karate is a fun way to celebrate our progress in band this year. Students play “pass-off” lines from our music book for the teacher, and as the students progress, they earn “belts”. We give the students colored zip ties to put around their case handles to represent their belts. More information about Band Karate, including how to submit assignments from home will be added in the coming weeks.
The belt order is: White—Yellow—Orange—Green—Blue—Purple—Red—Brown—Black.

Audio Recordings for Black Belt Solos
The Band Directors will give you a packet of music to choose from in class. You will pick one solo, and learn to play it. The audio files found below have TWO files for each solo. One file has the solo (that's the part that you play on your instrument) and also a piano part playing along. The second file has ONLY the piano part.
When you play your solo for the band directors (through ThreeRing - see the directors if you can't use ThreeRing from home) you should play the solo with the PIANO ONLY audio file playing along with you.
The audio file with the piano and solo part together is helpful when you are first learning your solo, so feel free to use it for home practice.
FRENCH HORN players must use the FRENCH HORN ONLY mp3 audio files
For ALL INSTRUMENTS EXCEPT FRENCH HORN, use the regular audio files. The SOLO and Piano audio files use a Trumpet as the example instrument, but it is the same notes as the Flute, Clarinet, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, and Bells, so any instrument can practice along with the mp3 files while you are learning your solo.
Percussionists playing a SNARE DRUM SOLO - you do NOT have a piano part to go with the solo. There are example audio files below of the snare drum solos in case you want to use them to help you learn the solos at home, but you don't play along with the audio files when you send in your Black Belt recording.
